As children near school age they begin to be directed towards adult led activities during each session. This helps the children begin to understand that as well as free playing time there are also times when and adult can show them interesting things too. During a Monday afternoon session the older children have opportunities to work in a smaller group accessing adult-chosen activities, again to help them become accustomed to the slightly more formal school setting in the months to come. During the half term before they start school the children are invited to four half days in the Foundation classroom with the Foundation Teacher. We have found this serves as an excellent induction to school as the children are already familiar with the building and routines before they start.
The Managing Supervisor and Foundation teacher at the Duchy school work together closely each year to ensure that information is shared to ensure a smooth transition form the playgroup to the school. Both the Head teacher and Foundation teacher visit each term to keep links strong.
