Our Governance

Playgroup is managed by a group of volunteer Trustees who take all the responsibilities such as running the Charity, employing staff and child protection. Trustees are required to run the Playgroup within the remit of the Charitable Objects (click here to visit the Charity commission website) and our Constitution.  Trustees are elected annually at the Annual General Meeting and any parent or guardian is invited to stand for election.  Indeed, we are constantly seeking new volunteers to keep Playgroup running as parents tend to retire from Trustees when their children go to school.

The Trustees meet every half term and delegate some tasks to the following Sub-committees:
Personnel
Finance
Facilities (premises and health and safety)
Curriculum
Every Bradninch Child Matters (strategy, development plan & marketing)
The Chair of Trustees supports and line manages the Managing Supervisor (equivalent to a school Headteacher).  The Managing Supervisor has the rest of the staff reporting to her, covering all day to day matters of teaching and administration.

Playgroup is funded by a combination of the local authority grant (a sum per child, limited to 15 hours a week), fees from parents (topping up extra hours, for example lunch clubs) and fundraising.  Inevitably there are more demands on our resources than can be met, but our turnover is significant for our sort of Charity and Trustees take seriously the responsibility of the care and education of up to 50 children at any one time and the employment of staff.

Trustees are determined to keep Playgroup running at an "Outstanding" Ofsted level despite funding constraints and welcome help from parents, especially attending "Parent Help" sessions to make sure an extra adult is in attendance.  Unfortunately many parents do not make the effort, which can be very valuable to see one's child experiencing Playgroup.
